Act 862 of 2017 allows a public school district and open-enrollment public charter school to develop a plan for alternative methods of instruction (AMI) to be used on days when the superintendent closes school due to exceptional or emergency circumstances such as: a contagious disease outbreak, inclement weather, or other acts of God; or a utility outage. AMI days allow for continuous learning when students miss days of regular instruction due to unforeseen circumstances. For the 2018-2019 school year, Lafayette County School District has been granted an approval of 5 days that can be used when any of the aforementioned emergency circumstances occur.
Whenever an AMI day is used, upon returning to school, students will be given assignments through means of electronic or paper learning packets to complete and return within 2 days of material being assigned. Assignments will be graded and recorded in TAC. Attendance will be based on the student’s completion of assignments and will be recorded within 5 days of the AMI day.
