Lafayette County School District Parents, Guardians, and Community Members:
Thank you for your patience and understanding during the closure of school due to Covid-19. Your continued support is greatly appreciated and will play an important role in the success of our students and district for the upcoming school year.
Lafayette County School District is committed to provide a safe learning environment that is conducive to learning during the 2020-2021 school year. The administration and staff are working diligently to create a school re-entry plan that will protect our students, staff, and community and provide a quality education for all students. Lafayette County School District will follow and implement guidance and directives from the Governor, Arkansas Department of Health, and Arkansas Department of Education. We will follow the Arkansas Ready for Learning Guidance Document that has been provided to all school districts by the Department of Education to assist schools in planning for school reopening in August. We ask for everyone’s cooperation and support as we follow state guidance and directives to prepare for the 2020-2021 school year.
Phone surveys have been conducted with parents as to their intent of sending their children back to school at this time. Based on the results of the surveys, Lafayette County School District will offer parents two options for educating their children.
1. Blended Learning: This option will be on-site learning. Students and teachers will be on campus. All classes will be offered as normal. Technology will be utilized in certain ways to move to online or virtual learning if school has to be closed for a short period of time.
2. Online learning-LCSD Virtual Learning Academy-This option is available for parents who feel their child is not ready to return to school due to fear of Covid-19. The student will be enrolled in a full-time remote educational setting using technology based learning platforms. The student will not be on campus. Classes will be facilitated by Lafayette County School teachers using Google Classroom, Lincoln Learning, Edgenuity, and other resources. Attendance will be taken, and lessons will be graded as required. All course work used will be aligned with the state curriculum standards. Students enrolled in the virtual academy must remain for the entire semester. If you choose to utilize this option, please notify your child’s principal no later than August 3, 2020.
The first day of school for Lafayette County School district is August 17, 2020.
Further information about the District’s re-entry plan is forthcoming. Any new information from the Governor’s office, Arkansas Department of Education, or the Arkansas Department of Health will be shared with you and the community via our website, Facebook and the local newspaper.
